With its fresh new look and new management, Huddle House is back in business, and owner Dev Patel is hoping to provide “that go-to” place for the community.

It’s been up and running since May 30, and to celebrate the public is invited to a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Three lucky winners will go home with free meals for a year, and 50 cent golden waffles will be available for purchase, one per guest.

Live broadcasting will be provided by 95.3 WHLF, and there will be other Huddle House signature door prizes.

“This is our way of saying thank you for letting us be here, and we hope that our customers will have a great experience each time they come,” said Patel. “We hope everyone will come out Saturday and have some fun.”

This South Boston location on Old Halifax Road is one of four locations being opened in 2017 by the Patels with the others located in Blackstone, Farmville and Petersburg.

“Our company was growing, and we were looking into food and retail operations. We knew about the brand and how people saw the brand as special,” said Patel. “We had talked about building one and saw these existing locations that we could re-open.”

The first day he came to the South Boston location, he said he was shocked it had closed in the first place.

“It’s a great community, the smiles are infectious, and it’s in a busy location. We saw what this place meant to the community, and they were happy to see us bring it back,” said Patel.

This “refreshed” location, he said, is not affiliated in any way with the old operations, and since taking over, Patel said the facility has received new equipment, new décor and has been thoroughly cleaned. “It’s part of the new up and coming Huddle House brand,” said Patel.

When customers come to Huddle House, Patel, Director of Operations Greg Lesler and General Manager Stephanie Bass want to make it all about the guests.

“What we’re looking for is a guest first experience. Most of our training revolves around guests. We’re really pushing our servers to surpass not only our expectations but also our customers’ expectations each time. Not only do we want to provide great food, but a good environment,” said Lesler.

Patel added, “We’re trying to provide that go-to place for the town.”

So far, they’ve been impressed by their employees calling it one of their best openings yet as far as staff.

“Our employees have been a pleasure to work with,” said Patel.
